downswings suck

I've been on a pretty big downswing lately. After losing $1200 today, it brings my losses this month up to about $4000, almost entirely at live 2/5 NL. I'm kind of at my wit's end, it's one of the biggest downswings I've experienced playing poker, and it's left me playing on a pretty short bankroll.

I definitely think I need to take at least a few days off and get my head together, and hopefully when I go back, I can play well and not have the downswing affect me too much.

For now though, I'm off to consume an unadvisable amount of alcohol and watch movies with my girlfriend.

March results

I realize I haven't been keeping up on this recently and it's something I hope to improve in the future. March was a pretty standard month overall. I've decided that I'm going to play just enough each month to keep my Supernova status for the year, and March fit that bill, losing about $400, and making about $400 with the VIP program, so breaking even overall.

Live showed much better results, with a meager 85 hours played and $6600 in profits, including a super profitable 2 hour $3k shot at 5/10. (I was chasing losses after being down $1200 at 2/5 in 45 minutes) I really should put more time into playing live, but it's difficult to play this game when there are so many more fun things to do.

Grinding online a bit

Oops, haven't posted in a while. I failed most of my January goals pretty hard and I suppose that not making a post about it was kind of like avoiding it. I'll be playing online the next few days instead of live to keep my Supernova status on Stars. Giraffe of yesterday:

Stars welcomed me back with some run good! Can only hope to do 1/10 as well today, since after all I am a breakeven player.

On the 21st my best friend from New Jersey is flying in to have some fun for a week, so I only have a few days to earn another 6k VPPs, but that shouldn't be too had. Really looking forward to having some fun toward the end of the month.

On another note, the transmission in my car died and I'm going to be without it for a few days while it get fixed, then on the 26th I'm having my dog flown back to me after not having for him for almost 2 years. Really looking forward to that; I miss him tons. Anyway, off to the grind! I'll try to update more frequently.

Breaking Routine

So far this month has been going pretty well for me. I've been playing a ton of live poker and am up quite a bit - I'm on pace to have a $15k month, which would be my biggest winning month ever. I'm pretty excited about this considering in early December my entire bankroll was all of $4000.

However, that's about the only thing I've been able to accomplish thus far. I seem to have fallen into a routine of waking up in the mid-late afternoon, wasting a few hours online, getting ready and going to play live, then coming home late and spending some time with my girlfriend before finally heading to bed sometime between 3 and 6am. In this routine, I seem to have no time for actually playing poker online, studying, or making my way to the gym. It's a problem, and I need to break my routine.

I've officially given up on unlocking my Full Tilt bonus after losing most of the small roll I left online. I think I have about $400 left online, which is going to be transferred back to Stars shortly (accompanied by a deposit) so I can at least put in enough volume to maintain Supernova in February. Hopefully they'll give a deposit bonus soon, as I was very disappointed not to see one for the new year.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing what (if any) changes Pokerstars makes to their cash game tables. Maybe they'll actually do something that brings more fish into the games I play - a welcome change, obviously. It would be nice to be able to start beating the games again.

I still have to play about 7.5k hands of 6max and all 10k hands of PLO to reach my goal, and will be trying to get money on Stars shortly so I have enough time to that. However, they're my least important goals for the month. I've had one session with my coach and hope to fit 2 more in before the end of the month, but this means actually playing poker.

I've managed to actually join a gym - less than 2 miles from my home, but the only time I've been there was when I joined. I really need to start heading back on a regular basis.

I'm hoping to have my next post on here be in the next few days, and probably much shorter with a few hand histories or something.

Woo, New Blog for 2011!

So, I decided that this year I'd keep a pretty steady blog going with details about my poker exploits as well as my day to day life.

So far this year (all of 2 days) I'm doing pretty well playing the live games at Venetian, and quickly losing what's left of my online roll trying to clear a $500 bonus from FTP. I don't know why I do it to myself; every time FTP gives me a bonus, I inevitably move some money there and lose more than the bonus trying to clear it. I really should just stick to Stars and earn VPPs. (yummy, yummy VPPs)

Today I was sick and decided not to play any live poker, and instead worked on clearing my bonus. It didn't go so well, but obviously that won't stop me from putting some serious volume in in the upcoming week to unlock the rest of it.

Since this is my first post, I feel I should post my goals for the month and for the year. We'll start with the yearly:

$100k profit
move up to $5/$10 NL live
move up and beat 400NL FR online
beat 200 6max NL and PLO online
maintain Supernova on Stars
get in shape & maintain a healthier lifestyle

Goals for January:

$10k profit
120 hours of live play
10k hands of 6max
10k hands of PLO
10+ hours studying, plus 3 coaching sessions
unlock $500 bonus on FTP!!!

and my non poker goals for the month:
lose 5-10lbs
exercise daily
eat well
join a gym

I've never been motivated enough to put a lot of time into studying, but alas, the games get harder and I can barely beat them anymore, so I really need to take it more seriously.

Here's wishing myself luck!
